Improving Your Software Engineering Skills (part 1) – Java and Open Source projects

There are some cool sites to help you improve your software engineering skills. One that I think has a very interesting concept and format is JavaBLACKbelt. Their idea is that you go thru a lot of tests and you are given martial arts belts. What I like about JBB is that their not focused only in the Java language like many SCJP (Sun Certified Java Programming) focused websites. But they also provide tests related to very well known* open source projects like ANT, Spring, Hibernate, Struts, Tapestry, JUnit, PMD, Velocity, Eclipse, Ruby, Maven2 and even JGoodies Forms.

By the way, for those who doesn’t know, JGoodies are the developers of the JDiskReport. For me a very useful tool that answers to you the old questions: “What is spending so much disk space?”. You might find yourself with 4Gb of Google Desktop stuff in your disk. :)

*I suppose it should be very well known between java developers, but at least “known“. If you are a Java developer and at least haven’t heard of half of these projects:

1 – Get Worried !!!
2 – Go get help at JavaBLACKbelt !!!
